🕯️ The Quote

Our earth is only one polka dot among a million stars in the cosmos.

— Yayoi Kusama (草間彌生)

🕊️ About the Artist

Yayoi Kusama (草間彌生, 1929–2026) was one of Japan’s most internationally celebrated contemporary artists.

Known for her signature polka dots, infinity nets, mirrored rooms, and vivid pumpkin sculptures, she explored ideas of infinity, self-obliteration, love, and our place within the universe.

For Kusama, polka dots were more than a visual pattern. They expressed the way each individual existence forms part of something immeasurably larger—a boundless universe in which everything is quietly connected.

💭 Reflection

From where we stand, our worries, choices, and daily experiences can sometimes feel as though they fill the entire world.

Yet when we imagine the Earth as one small polka dot among millions of stars, our perspective begins to shift.

This does not mean that our lives are insignificant. A single dot may appear small, but together, countless dots create an infinite pattern. Each one belongs to the whole, and the pattern would not be quite the same without it.

Perhaps we, too, are both small and meaningful—individual lives moving within a much greater mystery.

Remembering this may help us loosen our grip on what feels overwhelming. For a moment, we can look beyond ourselves and sense the quiet connection between the Earth, the stars, nature, and every living being.

We are each one small point of light within something infinite.

✨ In Practice

You might gently reflect:

・What feels overwhelming when viewed too closely?

・How might it look from a wider perspective?

・Where do you feel connected to something greater than yourself?

Step outside if you can, and look toward the sky.

Even when the stars cannot be seen, the vast cosmos is still there—and you are already part of it.
