Sometimes, a journey begins long before we realize it.
Around the time I first began visiting Tenkawa Village, a place deeply connected with dragons and sacred water, I had my first meaningful encounter with Ryūjin, a Japanese dragon deity.
Around that time, the word Ryūjin came to me with remarkable clarity. Even now, I cannot fully explain that experience, but it marked the beginning of this journey.
At the time, I did not understand what it meant. Looking back now, I realize that moment quietly opened a path toward deeper soul-searching, greater inner clarity, and a growing connection with the world beyond what we can see. It also awakened my interest in Japan’s sacred places and spiritual traditions.
As my journey continued, I encountered many deities, sacred places, and spiritual traditions. Looking back, I came to recognize Ryūjin as the first guide whose presence I consciously became aware of.
The more I visited places connected with Ryūjin—waterfalls, rivers, temples, shrines, mountains, and sacred caves—the more the journey unfolded in unexpected ways. Each destination revealed something new: a legend passed down through generations, an unfamiliar belief, a sacred symbol, or a connection I had not noticed before.
In Japanese tradition, Ryūjin is closely associated with water, protection, transformation, spiritual growth, and the life-giving forces of nature. Dragon deities may be honored in many forms and are not always connected to a single place.
Through this series, I would like to share the places, stories, and discoveries that have shaped my Dragon Path—and continue to reveal new connections along the way.

While every chapter is unique, each one follows a similar path.

As the Dragon Path unfolds, you may occasionally encounter serpent deities as well as Ryūjin.
In Japanese tradition, dragons and serpents share deep spiritual connections and are often associated with water, mountains, fertility, protection, transformation, and the life-giving forces of nature. Although they are not identical, their legends, symbols, and sacred places frequently overlap.
Rather than separating them completely, this series explores how these traditions intertwine and continue to shape Japan’s sacred landscape.

Now, I feel inspired to weave together the places, stories, experiences, and discoveries that have gradually shaped my Dragon Path.
I don’t know exactly where this journey will lead, and perhaps that is part of its beauty.
