In Japan, many temples are known for their seasonal flowers.
Among them is a temple famous for its beautiful rose garden.
The garden was created after the war by the temple’s head priest as a prayer for peace.
Built in the kimon — a direction traditionally associated with spiritual protection — the garden follows the old custom of planting thorny flowers and trees in that area.
I may write more about the temple and its rose garden in another post,
but today I simply wanted to share one small and joyful discovery from the visit.

🌹 Rose Ice Cream
A friend once told me about the rose ice cream here,
so I was happy to finally try it for myself.
The rose ice cream is served together with small rose-flavored biscuits,
and both the presentation and taste were wonderful.

The quantities seem to be limited,
so visiting earlier in the day may be a good idea.
Someone I know visited later of the day and found it already sold out.
I was able to sit near the rose garden while enjoying it,
surrounded by blooming roses and early summer air.
The café itself is completely rose-themed,
with rose tea, rose soda, rose coffee, and sweets shaped like roses.
Inside the shop, there were also many lovely rose-inspired items —
pens, mugs, jams, and other small gifts.
Whether visiting alone, with friends, family, or someone special,
it feels like a place that many people could enjoy.

This rose was blooming close to where I was sitting.

Its soft pink color and layered petals were so beautiful
that I found myself quietly stopping to admire it for a while.
Some roses were already fully blooming,
while others were still waiting to open.

I think this garden will become even more beautiful as the season moves toward June.
Even without visiting the café,
simply walking through the rose garden feels calming and refreshing.
The whole temple was so beautiful and inspiring that I would love to visit again during this season,
and it seems the roses bloom once more around October as well.
Today’s post focused on a small and joyful discovery — the rose ice cream —
but the breathtaking rose garden itself was truly unforgettable.
Beyond the flowers, the temple also has a beautiful atmosphere and history of its own.
